15 Accessible Peugeot Boxers for a Community Transport Charity

In the September newsletter, we gave you a sneak peek into our latest fleet of vehicles in build with one of the SCW conversion teams. The first group of minibuses are now complete and are being delivered regularly to their new homes.

Based on a L4H2 Peugeot Boxer.

All 15 Peugeot Boxers have been converted for a charity that supports providers of community transport across the UK. Each minibus will be used by different organisation’s schemes to provide community-led accessible transport to vulnerable people, often who are isolated, elderly or disabled. Typical services for the minibuses may include community bus services, school transport, hospital transport and dial a ride schemes.

The conversion

Based on the L4H2 Peugeot Boxers, these white minibuses can facilitate up to 16 seated passengers or 4 wheelchairs with seats removed. Access to the rear saloon can be achieved via the side load door which when opened, retracts a side step.

At Stanford Coachworks, we pride ourselves on our bespoke builds so we were excited to add a personalised touch to this fleet. Instead of the usual Stanfords S on the modesty screen, we have embroidered the charity’s logo onto a suede plaque and have positioned it at the entrance.

Interior design

Inside, we have lined the minibuses in two-tone grey soft-feel material with striking orange wipe clean accents. For each passenger seat, we have used a blue wipe clean fabric to upholster them in our executive ‘S Style’. All of these seats have been finished with orange piping and stitching and also include removable seat fixings and handy grab rail head rests, making them incredibly easy to remove from the minibuses in order to make room for the 4 wheelchairs.

Each seat is upholstered in a blue wipe clean fabric with striking orange stitching and piping.

In order to maintain passenger comfort, we have installed an Eberspacher rear saloon heating system along with comforting LED roof lights, which can be set to blue or white, and rear saloon speakers.

The rear saloon is illuminated by 4 LED centre roof lights.

Accessibility

For wheelchair access, we have installed an underfloor tail lift to the exterior of the minibus. Underfloor tail lifts can be beneficial to organisations carrying vulnerable clients as its exterior position results in a quieter ride for those in the rear saloon. Underfloor tail lifts also allow for additional passenger seating space in the rear.

All 15 minibuses feature an underfloor tail lift.

To secure the wheelchairs in the rear saloon, we have installed a tracked flooring, upper cant rail and side wall tracking. Wheelchair clamps can be fixed to this equipment to secure the wheelchairs. When not in use, the clamps can be stored in the wheelchair clamp storage box positioned at the back door above the tail lift for easy access.

Thank you

We would like to say a huge thank you to the charity for their order and we hope that each minibus helps benefit the community transport schemes that are using them.
