COSHH - Working with DCM products
At Stanford Coachworks we work with a variety of different products such as adhesives, paints, cleaning chemicals and more. Some products may contain a substance called Dichloromethane (DCM) which needs to be safely handled with precautions if used.
What is DCM?
Dichloromethane (DCM), also known as Methylene Chloride, is a highly flammable colourless solvent that gives off large amounts of odourless yet hazardous vapour. DCM can be found in some adhesive products and paint strippers and should only be used with safety precautions in place. At Stanford Coachworks, we only have one product in use that contains DCM. This products is ‘Silver Hook - Carb and Injector Cleaner’.
Protection from noise whilst working
A number of the activities that we carry out at Stanford Coachworks can be rather noisy, so it’s really important that you always remember to use hearing protection whilst working.
When to wear
Noise protection should be worn when carrying out loud activities such as cutting out windows, wheel arches and when cutting metals.
What to wear
Ear defenders are available to wear over the ears. However, we do have ear plugs available if you would prefer to wear those.
How to protect my hearing
Always wear your PPE correctly. We also carry out an annual health surveillance in which your hearing is tested. It is important to attend this.
Display screen equipment
For those working at desks, it is important to find a comfortable position to help prevent any muscular skeletal injuries.
