In the Spotlight: Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles
In the Spotlight returns for another insight! This month, we’re taking a look at our most popular market - wheelchair accessible conversions.
At Stanford Coachworks we specialise in wheelchair accessible conversions. During our 27 years within the industry, we have established a reputation for custom-build, high-quality minibuses which are second to none.
What makes our wheelchair accessible conversions so popular?
Our experience - We have been converting wheelchair accessible vehicles since day one and we supply an average of 350 conversions per year to a huge variety of organisations. We have an expert team, with a wealth of knowledge, on-hand to individually craft each vehicle to your precise requirements.
Customised process - Our main aim is to provide our clients with a vehicle which more than delivers. Every vehicle is converted to each client’s particular transport needs using our extensive experience of vehicle conversions. This detailed process aims to involve clients from the initial planning stage right through to design and build. Our bespoke approach allows us to convert each minibus specifically around the vehicle’s wheelchair users and their requirements.
Our customised vehicles and our highly-skilled teams.
Safety - We combine traditional skills with the latest developments in minibus technology and always complete our conversions to the highest safety standards. All of our conversions undergo strict quality controls and testing, followed by an IVA test, and finally, a thorough pre-delivery inspection. Since 2014, we have also held National Small Series Type Approval for our Mercedes Sprinter conversions. The Type Approval process requires our production and homologation teams to continuously monitor legislation and have complete communication with vehicle manufactures. This ensures that our conversions meet the highest standards of safety.
Collaboration with well-established manufacturers - We offer a variety of minibuses, in all wheelbases, from many well-established manufacturers. We also hold Qualified Vehicle Modifier status with both Ford and Renault. Our close relationships with these well-respected manufacturers ensures that our clients are supplied with a minibus which reflects our dedication to excellence.

What sort of organisations use your wheelchair accessible conversions?
During our 27 years within the industry, we have established an excellent reputation for wheelchair accessible conversions amongst the local authority, charity, community transport, care and education sectors. Many of our clients return for additional vehicles due to our level of personal service and quality.
Our local authority and community transport clients put their accessible vehicles to work as part of local accessible transport schemes, dial a ride services, shopping trips runs and more.
One of our well-known long-term clients is the Lord’s Taverners. For over 20 years, we have worked with leading youth and disability charity, the Lord’s Taverners, to help supply multiple SEN schools with wheelchair accessible minibuses. These accessible minibuses give students the opportunity to go out for day trips and to participate in a variety of sporting events across the country. Take a look at the Lord’s Taverners video below to find out all about how our bespoke green minibuses have helped students at the Lakeside School in Welwyn Garden City.
