Bespoke Conversions: The Mobile Clinic
Unlike other minibus converters, we don’t sell pre-designed minibuses. Each of our conversions are entirely bespoke, meaning that we work closely with our customers to design a unique vehicle that meets their specific requirements.
Our one-of-a-kind conversions appeal to many, due to the flexibility of the designs that we can create. Because of this, we caught the attention of our latest customer who was in need of a custom-built mobile doctor’s clinic.
The mobile doctor’s clinic is based on a L4H2 Peugeot Boxer.
Doctors of the World UK
Doctors of the World UK (DOTW) is part of the Médecins du Monde international network, an independent humanitarian movement, that works in the UK and abroad to help excluded people and communities access healthcare. DOTW has been a registered charity in England and Wales since 1998 and runs clinic and advocacy programmes that provide medical care, information, and practical support to people unable to access NHS services, opening its first clinic in London in 2006.
During COVID-19, DOTW has been offering support through a national helpline, remote medical consultations, and street outreach to vulnerable populations, such as people experiencing homelessness. It has also produced a wide range of translated resources to help migrant communities overcome language barriers and stay safe. Collectively, the DOTW network is responding to COVID-19 in 67 countries. Most recently, DOTW has launched a project to ensure that everyone in the UK can access COVID-19 vaccines, regardless of immigration status. The organisation’s new mobile clinic will be utilised by this service along with providing GP style healthcare consultations and social advice in order to reach people who find it difficult to access mainstream health services.

The Stanford Coachworks conversion
Based on a L4H2 Peugeot Boxer, the conversion has been designed to feature three individual compartments. This includes a waiting area, separated by a door, which leads into an examination area with a washroom. For easy cleaning, the entire vehicle has been lined and upholstered in wipe clean grey and white materials. This allows the volunteers to quickly sanitise the vehicle after each patient.

The waiting area
In the waiting area, we have installed a diamond-stitch comfort seating area, a fold-up desk area with chairs and storage for them, two lockable storage compartments and fixed bottle holders for sanitiser.

The examination area
Heading through the door and into the examination area, we have constructed a fixed desk area, which includes both a cold and hot water sink. For patient privacy, we have limo tinted the rear window and fitted a blackout roller blind. Opposite the desk, we have designed an examination bed topped with a wipe clean memory foam mattress. Above the bed, we have installed overhead lockers which have LED touch-sensitive lights recessed below to illuminate the area.
In the examination area we have installed a custom desk space with both hot and cold water sinks.
One of our client’s must-haves was multiple storage compartments to carry all of their equipment and supplies. Therefore, we have taken advantage of the large examination bed and have constructed additional storage compartments underneath, along with a space for the vehicle’s wheelchair accessible ramps.

The washroom
Positioned inside of the examination room, we have assembled a washroom complete with a toilet and extraction fan unit for hygiene and ventilation. To utilise the smaller space, we have fitted a fold-away hot / cold sink along with a sanitiser bottle holder, mirror and LED ceiling light.

Electrics and lighting
As the DOTW team will require plenty of power for their important equipment, we have fitted numerous 240-volt power sockets with USB points throughout the vehicle. A 1600-watt inverter and an external hook-up point have also been installed to ensure that they never have to worry about losing power.
Protected by a removable panel in the storage locker, we have installed a 1600-watt inverter to power all of DOTW’s equipment.
Inside, multiple LED lights have been recessed into the ceiling and all feature both a bright white and comfort blue setting. Outside of the vehicle, we have fitted scene lighting, which can be used to illuminate the exterior surrounding.
